Tips On Shipping Your Motorcycle

Looking for something else?
Google
by Sintilia Miecevole

There are quite a few differences between car and motorcycle shipping. While a car has a reliable handbrake and four wheels for extra stability a motorcycle is quite different by design having only two wheels and nothing to keep the bike stationery except the stand.

You might think that motorcycle shipping would be cheaper than car shipping because of the difference in size of vehicles but this is rarely the case. The closed carriers that are often used should be specially designed to carry motorcycles and this will mean that there will either be palettes specially designed for the purpose or there will be specially fitted tracks that serve the same purpose. What this means is that a motorcycle basically takes up the same room as a car when it needs to be shipped anywhere.

How expensive is motorcycle shipping?

This is dependant on two main factors: how far you are traveling and what services the company you intend to use has to offer. There are a variety of different services that a shipping company can offer you. You would be better using a specialist motorcycle shipper than a car shipper that offers motorcycle shipping as an extra service.

The further you are traveling and the more services you require the higher the price is likely to be, but you will receive a discount from the right company if you are transporting more than one motorbike, so shop around for quotes.

Is motorcycle shipping safe?

A reputable specialist motorcycle shipping company will know exactly what they are doing with your bike. Many companies employ motorbike enthusiasts and owners to drive the carriers, so you can be sure that the driver knows how much your motorbike means to you. This isn't to say there isn't the occasional accident.

A good shipping company will include some insurance with your quote and will try their utmost to ensure that nothing does go wrong. While the insurance will cover you for scratches and careless damage by the shipping company it is unlikely to cover for 'acts of god' like a sinking ship or damage due to floods. If you're especially worried about this, either because of the time of year, the expected weather or simply because you are transporting your dream bike, you can buy extra Insurance that covers virtually any eventuality and your shipping company should be able to offer you a little advice on the relevant policies.

Motorcycle Insurance

by Steve Dimeck

These days, simply being careful while out and about with your bike and using safety gear is not the only protection you need! Motorcycles have a far higher rate of accidents per unit distance than cars. This is due to the exposed rider and the fact that many automobile drivers fail to see these smaller vehicles in the traffic stream.

Also, as the law and lawsuit trials become more and more "complicated," you might even end up paying for the guy who was talking on his cell phone while driving, failed to see you and pushed you in the ditch. Of

Motorcycle Theft From the Point of View of a Reformed Thief

by Jim Noss

Information gathered from stats and reports on convicted motorcycle thieves. As well as, from the victoms of motorcycle theft.

The market for stolen bikes right now is so big, it is ridiculous!

Most bikes get taken around 2:00-3:30 am when no-one is up looking out the windows. The thieves will first drive around and look for bikes they and/or their customers want. Then they will return with their van and three or four other guys to help throw the bike in the back of van. It is a one, two, three process taking no longer than 5 minutes. Once the

Tips in Preventing Motorcycle Injuries

by Kay Zetkin

Safety in riding motorcycles in order to prevent injuries is a very critical issue especially during the peak of motorcycle season. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons are very much concerned about this issue, since there are almost always a lot of motorcycle accidents happening, at least one every few days. Most injuries noted from the people brought into the Level One Trauma Units range from serious musculoskeletal injuries, open fractures and head traumas from motorcycle accidents.

The increasing accidents are linked to the increased number of motorcycles on the road. Records show that since 1997, motorcycles sales increased more than

Motorcycle Helmets - Mind Your Head!

by Daniel Levy

To most riders, motorcycle helmets do not fit into their dream accessory. They feel helmets are restrictive and unnecessary and do not add to their aesthetic appeal. But it is important to know why you need to wear a helmet while riding a bike and what it does for you.

Motorcycle helmets act as a protection device for your head. Nearly all motor crashes in which riders do not wear helmets, result in major head injuries. To drive this point further, according to a survey done in the state of California, in 900 crashes, there were 980 head and neck injuries.

Roadside First Aid

by Alexandra Gubbins

There are an estimated 300,000 casualties from road accidents every year in the UK and knowing some First Aid could help save a life. Carrying a First Aid kit in a car or on a motorcycle is highly recommended, so that there is basic equipment available should there be an accident.

It must be stressed that there is no comparison to going on a First Aid training course, and that the following advice must be taken in that context. www.sja.org.uk is the St John's Ambulance website where more information about going on a First Aid course can be found.
